To start the year in coding a gave a try to a new event i found called Global Hack Week, the first one of the year being Beginners Week from Jan 5th - 11th 2024, you can find it here as is still on going at the time of writing this post.
Opening Event
We started the week with an opening stream with Ryan and Mary.
They explained how the week would go divided in streams and challenges.
How we could earn points by attending sessions and completing challenges.
How we could earn swag stickers and get them mailed to us for free.
How to complete Challenges and that the deadline is next Thursday.
How there are coding challenges but also offers from partners like GoDaddy/Porkbun for free domains or Github for the Edu dev pack.
And i think the most important tip was that you don't have to complete everything or assist to every session.
My Day 1 Activities
I redeemed jfm.wiki in porkbun my favorite registrar which right now is a redirect to my notion wiki site.
Completed the address form to get mailed swag.
Completed several smaller challenges like following in social media or joining the discord.
Sessions i attended
Making Better Hacks, Faster with GitHub Copilot.
Building a Portfolio with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Building your first iOS App Part 1 with Kary.
Where she showed us the inner workings of bulding a affirmations App for iOS.
this was really perfect for my since i'm interested in building iOS apps and gave me a lot of insight and motivation to keep my iOS journey.
In summary a great first day with a free domain and a lot of interesting content.
See you in day 2.
